Optimal config (CPU) for Studio 2019

Hi all,

I'm about to acquire a new PC (that I'll build myself) and I was wondering if you could help me achieve the best results with Studio 2019 (+ future proof).

I know that 16 Gb RAM and a powerful SSD are required, but what about the processor? Is an i5 sufficient? What is the difference between an i5 and an i7 in that respect?

Anything else I should pay attention to?

Thanks in advance!

Best,

Sab

  • The following configuration works, however faster would be better.
i5 7th generation in a MS Surface Pro LTE with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB HDD (SSD).
For better results take a desktop i5 or i7 with 8 GB RAM or more and an SSD for operating system and an extra SSD for TMs/TBs (it can also be a partition on the main SSD, if it is big enough).

There are no display issues on 2 Asus UHD 27" screens (resoultion 2560 x 1440) and 100% scaling. Same applies to the surface screen (the resolution is even slightly higher) and 100% scaling. You can change scaling on the fly, Studio still works properly.

  • Excellent, thank you Jerzy. Your comment about the screens helps me a lot, too, since I have two 27" screens (1 horizontal and 1 vertical). I think I will opt for 16 GB RAM (and a big SSD, for sure).
  • Best solution IMO. I used to have a PC with 24 GB RAM, the current one has "only" 16 GB - and I do not feel it would be not enough. More important - the old PC has had a 256 GB SSD for OS and programs and I have got it nearly full. The current one has 512 GB for OS and programs, so I feel much more comfortable with it. My TMs and TBs are stored on an extra SSD with 240 GB, all projects and files are on a NAS.
