"This file was created using a file type definition that does not exist on you system (XML v 1.3.0.0) The following functionality will be restricted or unavailable: Savings - Verification - Quick Tags - Preview"

Hello

I wonder if someone could help me please? I'm having problems with a project in Trados Studio 2019 and the error message I'm getting is "This file was created using a file type definition that does not exist on you system (XML v 1.3.0.0)  The following functionality will be restricted or unavailable: - Savings - Verification - Quick Tags - Preview". I don't know what this means, only that I can't export the file or create a return package (greyed out). It definitely isn't the agency's fault as it's a group project and no-one else is having problems. I'm sure it's something wrong with my system but I have no idea what or what I can possibly do to resolve it. I'd be grateful for any assistance whatsoever.

Many thanks in advance.

  • Hello Tara,

The notifications you are currently receiving indicate that you are working with an .sdlxliff file that has been created with a custom file type filter; and that .sdlxliff is "outside" of a project package (which contains the required custom file type filter). This is also reinforced by the fact that the "Create Return Package" (you mention) option is also greyed out; most likely you created the project on your own by opening the .sdlxliff from outside the project package.

    My recommendations are to either:

    1. Re-open the original project package the agency sent you and then translate its contents with the help of your TM (which should already contain the data you translated on the "problematic" file). This should resolve the problem you are currently having because the project package should contain the filter (XML v 1.3.0.0) which was used to prepare the file you are working on.
    or
    2. Continue working on this file, and then simply send the translated .sdlxliff as a standalone file to your customer. You will still be unable to "verify / save the target" but your customer should not have this issue.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thanks so much Vlad. That’s a great help - now at least I understand what happened and can fix it!
