Please try using the 'Generate target translations' batch task, it should revert your file back to its original XLIFF file type.

It sounds as though the file have was actually a Word file to start with, not XLIFF, and if you save target successfully then the file you started with must have been an sdlxliff.  It could not have been anything else.

Are you sure they didn't just ask for an xliff while actually meaning an sdlxliff?  Some users shorten the name as an sdlxliff is an xliff.

I imported xliff but I think it's a possibility that the file was originally a word or sdlxliff file before converted to xliff  (although I am not sure if that would explain this). There was a middle man between the agency (Trados user) and me (Trados user), who I know doesn't use Trados. He could have converted the original file to xliff using his own cat tool and gave it to me. He asked for xliff back but I gave him sdlxiff file saying this is all I could do, and he accepted it without causing more headache, so it's all good now. I will ask again when I have another problem like this and will provide more solid proof if needed. Thank you very much for your help.
