Have you received this file from the customer via a project package? Please check the translation memory settings in the Project Settings. It might be that the TM was not checked in the 'Update' column, and it that case whenever you confirm a segment it will not be saved into the TM.

As for the file itself, could you please try just dragging it into Studio, to open it outside of a project? Please let me know if it works.

In Project Settings, under the specific language pair, then Translation Memory and Automated Translation, is "Use different translation providers for this language pair" checked by any chance? If so, any TMs you have added under All Language Pairs will not be updated.

For the client's TM "Update' is not checked. For my TM that I added to the project settings in the usual manner, it is checked. That is why I am surprised.

You might have also tried this, but using the SDLXLIFF for PerfectMatch maybe works?

Another way would be to convert the SDLXLIFF file into a Word file, and if it works, to align it with the source file so you can load it into your TM. There is an app called 'SDLXLIFF Converter for Microsoft Office' installed with Studio - please try converting the file into a Word doc using it.

I created a new project from the source Word doc (Delay in responding because it took 20 minutes to process...) and still there's nothing from the TM. So that question remains. Why did my TM not populate?
I'm back at square one there.
I can try to convert my sdlxliff into a Word file but I'm pretty sure it's corrupted and won't work. I'll give it a go.

Good news. My customer can open the sdlxliff and will resend it to me with all of my work locked. This still doesn't answer my question though, why the TM wasn't populated when I confirmed segments.

It might be worth checking the TM in the TM View instead of the Results window in Editor - maybe the TUs are there but the Results window is not displaying them?

Please also reset the window layout and see if now when you confirm a segment, if it is uploaded into the TM. If not, it would be a good idea to use a TM repair tool (this one for example) or export the TM and then import it into a new TM.

I have been experiencing the same issue: my client sent me a package, I added my own TM, however I realized that: (1) my TM was not being populated despite being the Update flag checked, and the Use different TM for this language pair checked and with the TM listed and updated; (2) it was not spotting fuzzy matches and repetitions within the same file. 

I temporarily resolved the issue by creating a new TM for just this project, which was updated correctly (after restarting Studio). I think we have the same issue, Karen! 

I'm sorry to hear that but I'm glad to hear that I might not be the only one! I'm on heavy deadline so I haven't investigated further yet but I will look into it and will reply here with anything I can determine.
