Where exactly do I find this function? I cannot find it!

I found it, My Trados Studio 2019 is slow anyway :-(

If you're working with a project, then that setting needs to be changed under Project settings, here:

Unless you only translate single files, changing the above settings via File>Options will only change things in projects created after the change.

Project settings overrule every instance of a setting that can also be made under File>Options. This is so that people can created project templates that are specific to individual language flavours or individual clients for example.

As I seem to be working as a technical reviewer most these days, most of my work is proofreading translations side by side in Studio so I take this a step further and have Match Repair turned off here in Project settings:

Also when reviewing I have the Match repair window closed. This is done by clicking the 'x' in the corner of the Fragment matches tab under the Home tab of the Translation page. Here's what it looks like in Translator View still active:

So you click on the Fragment Matches tab then on the 'x' top right of wherever you have your Fragment Matches positioned on the page. If you click the wrong 'x' or to reinstate it, you can reset via the top 'View' tab by clicking 'Reset window layout':

I hope this is enough to resolve your issue. There are further things that could be done but the above is the first to try, if only to rule this out as the cause.
