Problems exporting Excel file, with macros, popups and cell ranges.

Hello,

I am using Trados Studio 2019 (latest version).

I am trying to export a huge Excel file with many tables with formulas, macros, popups, cross  references between cells and tables.

I had a lot of troubles. I had to go inside the excel xlm files in order to fix partially the document, some fromulas were missing in some tables.

My main problem right now is that a formula, which refers to a range of cells in another table (named in the original file NR_Country) is not working. The cell range is missing in the target file.

I have manipulated all Trados settings before beginning the translation, and I did not find any solution to this.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance !

    hard time..

sounds like you are not translating but, knd of, developing something..

    Good Luck To You

  • Hello Adrian,

It may seems that I am developing something, but not, I was just translating a huge Excel document but it had many many tables, tabs and formulas. I am still looking for a solution, since, when I export it from Trados, I still get errors (REF!) in table formulas since they refer to a range on cells (named by the Excel author, and which I did not translated). Trados is in some way not exporting those cell ranges. On the other hand, I had three tables that were disabled while opening the document after exporting. Excel informed me that there were problems with the docuement and that it would have to be corrected. That's why I had to go to the xlm files and input the missing formulas copying them from the source file.

I would like to understand where is the error. Are they in my project settings, in the way Trados handles formulas and cell ranges or in the way the document was compiled?

Any input will be greatly appreciate.

I am not a developer, just a translator trying to solve a huge problem and not to disappoint a client.

    Thank you for your interest.

    Best regards,

    Pierre Souchar

you can think of three levels

-SDL Trados Studio File Type level- there is only who can support this level. SDL. Especially, If you have troubled with "disabled opening" noobody can handle this properly - if so, SDL should look into it firstly.

-MS Excel VBA level : I guess you know this well too though you did not mentioned it at all. I guess, this procedure could solve most of the your prlblem. I mean, just checking the formula (contents) both files (after_translated vs before_translated) one by one and correct/rebuilt it if you have to on the basis of befre_translation. Of course, automatically.

-Lastly, I even did not expect one mention MS Excel "xml" level in here. Quite surprised. So.. if you are the person who can handle (like you said "imput" it), I guss you could solve most of it-except the SDL's fault.

    Right ?

If you post some sample (I guess, that should be almost impossible), I will check it out.
