If the Russian content has to remain in the Target document then all you need to do is leave the Source segment untranslated. They will not be saved to your TM if you leave them untranslated. Lock these segments.

Both untranslated and draft status will prevent the segment from being added to your TM. If the job is going to be handled by someone else such as a project manager after delivery, I always lock any TU's that should not enter the TM and/or the Target document.

Not confirming the text is not the best solution, as such segments may got confirmed in the process fully automatically, for example if you open for review. Better solution is to copy source to target, put the segment on "Sign-off rejected" and lock it. This way it will remain as such, regardless what you do with the file. Only if you explicitly use go and unlock such segments and change the status with for example Toolkit, it is possible that the status changes.

Maybe take a novel approach.... if you have this for example:

Use the advanced display filter with this:

That will get you something like this hopefully:

Now just select them all and lock them so they can be excluded from your updates:

Then filter on unlocked and work as required:

Please, confirm that if I lock empty segments, they will not get imported into my TM. Please, note that I do not want the source in Russian imported either. I did not quite understand the difference with inserting <space> that Alison suggested.

If you work interactively and they are locked then obviously they won't go in your TM as youll be skipping these segments.

If you run a batch task locked segments are skipped by default. Here's an example to help:

Empty segments will not go into TM, locked segments with status translated, translation approved o signed off will go into TM. This is why I always use "sign-off rejected". This status never goes into TM.

Even the Update Main TM batch task can be configured to update the TM with segments having any status:
