The document cannot be processed since it contains unexpected contents

Hello

I get this error message when I try to open a Word document (.doc) in my Trados Studio 2019. I tried to copy the content to a new file and tried saving it as an rtf. I also tried the solutions I found in here (for other versions, though), but the result is still the same. Trados stops the process while pre-translating every time.

All help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

Mats

  • Perhaps try using Open and Repair in Word first and see if there is a problem with the file?  Was it a converted PDF maybe... in which case try cleaning it better with something like TransTools:

    https://appstore.sdl.com/language/app/transtools/543/

If that doesn't help can you share the file so we can test it?  You can email it to pfilkin@sdl.com if this is ok.

  • Thank you for your reply, Paul. I tried the Open and Repair in Word, but the result was the same. It is not a converted pdf, but a file exported from my client's case managment system. The content has now been published in the original language, which means I can mail you the file.

  • Dear all,

I just got the same error in SDL Trados 2021, which I just activated a couple of days ago. I never before got this error in previous versions of Trados Studio. I tried every solution proposed but did not work. What solved it was I converted my .docx file into .odt (In Word, I opened my Word file and saved it as OpenDocument Text). This way I was able to process the file in Trados. I then generate the target file, open it in Word and save it again as a Word file. I hope this helps anyone facing the same problem.

    Kind regards,

    Lucia
