1. make a copy of you TM(s) at safe place (Never use it, delete it when you finish all your work done well)
2. make a fresh start of your project with "the" TM(s) and your raw documents.
3. Done

Not 100% sure, but even if no TMs get updated, don't the translated target segments get saved to the project files? That is: the .sdlxliff files. If so, there are various ways to get the translations back out of them and into yr project 

First step: make copies of ALL project files before doing ANYTHING else.

Then have a look at the contents of the sdlxliff files..

Hi Michael. I checked in the "autosave" folder, and the only file there is the latest version, i.e. the one generated after my last "pre-translate", with all my translation lost. So I am not sure what I could save. Anywhere else to look?

Each Studio project consists of a folder, with several sub-folders. For example, I translate from Dutch into English, so mine always have:

‘en-GB’
‘nl-NL’
‘Reports’
(sometimes some other stuff/folders)
… and a project file, with file ending: .sdlproj

Have a look in the src and trgt folders, in case something is left undestroyed.

I did, the new "pre-translated" file is all that is accessible there :-(

Damn. And you are 100% sure your translations didn't get saved to any TMs at all, maybe even by mistake?

If not, things are indeed not looking good.

There are a few golden rules (at least in my book) that seem to have been broken here,:
1. always make sure your work is getting saved to a TM, and
2. always have full backups (local + online) of all files you work and which change, and can roll back to any time in the past.

Looks like it might be time to quickly pre-translate the whole thing with DeepL/Google Translate, and then try to race thought it and ‘post-edit’ it, hoping you remember some of what you have been working on now for many days :-(

Sorry I can't be of more help! This is a truly horrible thing to have to go though. We've all been there, albeit some of us perhaps not so spectacularly as others.

I just did a quick test in a dummy project, and if you have no TMs connected/updating, and you translate something, and then delete it. the data is deleted from the .sdlxliff in the target folder. if AutoSave didn't save you, and you have no backups (online, like DropBox/Google Drive, CrashPlan, etc., or local, like nightly/hourly Macrium Reflect disk images) … I think you are up shit creek without a paddle

Not sure whether you mean that your files were inside of your OneDrive folder or were being backed up with it in some other way. if so, you should be able to access the (many) versions, either on yr computer in Explorer via right-click, or in the OneDrive online interface...

Oh? OneDrive online interface? In the "fr-CA" file on OneDrive is the same useless overwritten file as elsewhere. Right clicking does not help, it still tells me there are no previous versions to retrieve.

Hmm, I assume this means you had OneDrive paused the whole time. That is, you had it switched Off. :-(

You could also have a look in the OneDrive ‘Recycle bin’ (just in case), in the online interface... for any deleted files...
