Upgrading translation memory

Question

This is my first day using the trial version. I'm trying to import a tmx translation memory from DVX. Trados says it needs to "upgrade" this translation memory. Trados says it has created the translation memory, then it imported the translation memory, then it seemed to just stop. It hasn't "built the translation model". It hasn't "aligned the translation units" etc. Are these steps necessary?

 If your TM is small then these are not necessary at all. If your TM is large then it could take a while.
