Why can't Trados recognize numbers properly?

I have Trados Studio 2014 and 2015. Both versions have serious problems with number recognition and propagation. The settings I use are out of the box. For instance, thousands are either separated by a space or not at all in Russian. US English uses commas. Supposedly, once you have localized a 4-digit number once, it is supposed to propagate to the rest of your (huge) file. But it does not. You have to do these numbers manually. Trados takes time to "propagate" through the large file but no propagation takes place. One would think that the basic localization for you chosen language pair would be configured correctly out of the box but it is not.

Why does Trados not fix this. I have been using it since version 2, and the problem is always there.

  • There could be many reasons for this, but fundamentally you need to have number recognition on, and the numbers need to match what Windows is expecting as the format for that language because Studio currently uses the language resources from your operating system.

If you share examples rather than a wordy explanation it's easier to explain where your problems may be coming from.  For example:

    • screenshots showing the active segment where your problems are so we can see what's being recognised or not
    • sample text to play with
    • confirmation of your number recognition settings on your TM and also in your auto-substitution settings
