With which version of Trados were the memories created in?

If I remember correctly, it is only possible to upgrade memories from 2007 / 2007 Suite (export to TMX 1.4b).

Earlier memories are far more problematic.

My old memories or the version they were created with are not the problem because a colleague who has the same current version that I have (Studio 2019) converted two of my old TMs without any problem (however, they are .tmw memories and I tried the conversion with both the memories directly and with the respective .txt export files).

I did research this quite a bit and read various manuals/guides/forum posts and watched the tutorials. The process should be quite simple and fool-proof without any need for additional apps. In fact, the same person from SDL who offered the solution in the post I have linked also stated explictly in another post (that I can't find again now but that I saw just yesterday) that no separate app is needed.

Based on the post linked above this seems to be a purely technical problem linked to a missing Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package. The problem now is that this package is no longer available from Microsoft for download. Hence I was wondering if there is any other possible solution.

Apps should be seen as helpful tools - Apps are simply automating sometimes very complex processes that 'could' be done manually if enough expertise is vorhanden along with the right tools.

Thanks a lot. I installed the package from your link and successfully converted an old .tmw memory with no problems.

I understand your point about apps being helpful by automating complex processes that would otherwise have to be done manually.

But this upgrade process is already a really simple built-in function in Studio 2019 and can be done with just a few clicks. It just wasn't working in my case. But now, with the Visual C package installed it does, so - problem solved.
