Are you proofreading the files in Studio, or outside of Studio?

Would you like to see the difference between the two files in the second version, when you compare Word files in Word? Or would you like to apply the changes made in document 1 into document 2?

Please give us a bit more details as to what you would like to do.

Thanks a lot for your reply. 

I am working in Studio. Both files are very similar, and the client wants track changes of my modifications to be displayed in the sdlxliff files. What I change in one file, will be the exact same change on the second file. 

So I want to apply the same changes from document 1 into document 2 (as if the TM could save units with the tracked changes and simply apply them in the second file) to save myself some time, as otherwise I will have to apply the changes manually in both files segment by segment. 

I tried saving the final TM, running all perfect matches (about 95%), exporting a bilingual file, running a compare file in Word, and updating the sdlxliff from the compared bilingual file. This has worked with some small files I used to test this procedure but with this large file it is giving me errors. So I believe this is not possible.

I'm afraid this is not possible.  You have to make these changes as you go in real-time.  Using a TM will simply replace the entire segment and won't show the changes in the same way.

Perhaps the easiest way for you is to work through the first file and confirm your changes to a TM.  Then open the second file with the same TM and use translate to fuzzy to identify the segments that have the same source but a different result in the TM.  These will be the segments you have changed in the other file.  You'll see the result in the TM window and can make the change manually with tracked segments on.

I have faced the same issue --  client wants xliff in change tracked mode which I deactivated and actually forgot to activate.

Now I have two xliffs -- initial translation aтв revised one without changes tracked therein.

So I have to use ChangeTrack program to demonstrate my client what was changed by generating change report using the two xliff files.

Have any other easy option surfaced yet?  Excluding the "compare in word" well known option, or manual option of "translate to fuzzy"

If you want the SDLXLIFF marked up then the only solution you have is translate to fuzzy.

There are other solutions to create a report showing the differences but if you need an XLIFF then translate to fuzzy is the way to go.
