There are usually two reasons for this message.  If you created the project yourself, with the original source files, then you should not normally see this.  However if you have security software running, that is not seeing Trados Studio as an allowable application, can strip the temporary files used in background and cause this message to appear.  This is more problematic because you'll need to resolve this to be able to get your target translations out.  Not insurmountable, but you will need to recreate the project in most cases.

The other reason sounds like the one you have.  This is simply normal behaviour if you don't have the source and it is not embedded in the project.  Moving the ruler to 100Mb under "Embedding" won't do anything because this is only going to make a difference when the project is created.  The good news is that this won't affect your client t all.  It just means you won't be able to save the target file or use preview and maybe some verification options.

Hi Paul, thank you for the prompt help. Well, yes, I suppose it has something to do with the Malwarebytes or CCleaner. I am going to check the settings of these two programs later on, but what worries me most now is my current translation file. Could you please confirm I can simply go on translating as usual and normally deliver it (.sdlxliff file) upon finishing?

Also, when I reopened the file hitting No, I noticed my memory wasn't there anymore so I had to add it again.

so yes, you can go on translating and simply return the package to to your client when you’re done.

I meant to answer this too but had to board a plane ;-)

This raises a question in my mind about how you're working.  If you added your TM to your project settings and always open your files for translation from the files view of that project then you should always have the TM available to you.

Can you elaborate on how you are working?  Apologies if this is a basic question.  I have seen new users opening multiple projects for the same file because they keep opening the file from windows instead of using the project that is already there in Studio.

Thank you, Paul. It was clear. I just needed the final confirmation because I really went into panic last night. My deadline is tomorrow and I couldn't open the file :-)

No, please, you can go on with basic questions and explanations. Even though I use Trados in my daily work, I still consider myself a beginner, i.e. I've learnt some basic things which I need for work and when something unexpected happens (like this time), I feel lost.

How do I work? Well, this time it wasn't a package, only a .sdlxliff file that I got from the client. I save the file first and then open it. It opens Trados as well. I add memory, adjust project settings (mostly verification and auto suggest) and start working. When I stop and want to reopen it later on, I open Trados, find the file in Projects - Files, and (right click) Open for translation. Is this the correct way? I really don't know why my memory disappeared last night. I've just opened the file again (hitting No on the Error message), and the memory is there.

Yes... this is a perfectly sound way to work.  Seems like the missing TM thing is just one of those things we may never know.
