Dear Community, I am an unexperienced (and slightly fearful) sdltrados 2019 starter edition user. The translation memory button is greyed out and I can't open a Tm that I was sent, but the TM is small, can I clear out my old TMs somehow to free up my starter 'units'?

The reason it's greyed out is probably because the Starter Edition doesn't support any TM maintenance features and once your TM exceeds 5000 TUs you can't add it to your projects either.

Not with the Starter Edition. You'd need to use a new TM and start from scratch.
If your client sends you a Studio project package with the TM attached to it then you'll be able to work with it... at least in terms of getting matches.
If you want to do more around TM maintenance you will need to upgrade to the Freelance version at least.

When I renewed I was given an option do download afresh (which I did not take, I just renewed), if I were to download afresh would I be able to use this 'new' TM (up to 5000 TUs)
b) can I redownload without buying another starter sub?
c) is freelance version subscription or you buy it forever?

No. But you should be able to remove that one TM from your settings and create a new empty one to use.

Yes. It's in your account already so you can download this as often as you like.

It's a buy it forever.
