I have a quick question. What would people recommend (in addition to the SDL website/webinars etc.) as good general sources of information for keeping up-to-date on general developments in the translation and translation technology fields?

I would certainly recommend Slator www.slator.com - they have a weekly newsletter and frequent content on their website.
Jost Zetzsche's "Translator's Toolbox" (fortnightly Newsletter) used to be a go to of mine - http://www.internationalwriters.com/toolbox/ suggests that it is now available through Amazon in book form.

Thank you Michael! Very helpful. I hadn't heard of Slator before.
I can also only confess to having discovered Slator recently after they gave a keynote at a BDÜ event I spoke at in Bonn in November. They have a good helicopter perspective of the language industry and the role of technology - particularly sectorally.
