Spaces appear in the middle of words when creating a Studio project from an XLF file

This is weird,. I have a XLF. When I process it with Trados, a number of spaces appear in the middle of whole words, and I see absolutely no reason for it. I have edited the SDLXLIFF file and I see the words whole. I open the SDLXLIFF file in other products, such as Xbench and Verifika, and no spaces appear. I open the SDLXLIFF file in Notepad++, and no space appears.

This is the relevant section of the XLIFF file in Notepad`++

So check this out, This is the screen in Trados. The split words are shown within a red box.

However, opening the SDLXLIFF file in Notepad++, I see no reason why "POD ER" and "tod as" are split, as can be seen here.

What is even worse, if I open the SDLXLIFF file (or the XLIFF file, does not matter) with other tools, such as Xbench or Verifika, no such spaces appear. Below is Xbench. As you can see, the word "partes" is not split.

This is a mystery that is making me waste a LOT of time, and kind of freaking me out as well. It turns out that I can't work with the file my client provided me because Trados seems to do something stupid with the spaces, with no justification whatsoever, because they appear in the middle of words, without tags around. And I have tried a million things in the XLIFF section of file types, to no avail. Without understanding a thing, I have modified almost all checkboxes and settings. Nothing changed in the least.

So please help me because I am quite desperate. Thank you!
