I think the only way to do this is to open the EPS file in something like Adobe Illustrator and do the work there.  I don't think the text is saved as text in a way it can be extracted.  So you'd have to delete the existing text in Illustrator and then add in what you wanted instead.

An EPS file is one used as an output option from many high end publishing systems and was used to either send to a printer that supported EPS output (or often to a commercial printer for printing), or used as the interim format before creating a PDF document (not generally needed anymore as most applications can go from layout direct to PDF). These EPS files are often very large and contain a whole load of information to do with page layout/breaks etc. etc. as well as the actual text/image information to be printed and as Paul says, are not really a format to play around with for translation.

Based on this, I would suggest that the best option would be to ask your client for a copy of the FrameMaker .MIF file which you can then work with directly in SDL Trados Studio. Any other option is likely to require a lot of additional work to get the output in a format you can work with or use.

Hi Paul, I know this thread is an old one, but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of users out there that have to process EPS files. We are currently using SysFilter, but recently SysFilter has become very sluggish and relies on us having a separate tool, process, and licenses. It would be great just to add the EPS files to Trados Studio as a translatable file and translate as any other file type. It is possible, as I recently saw a solution in XTM that worked really well. This would be a real benefit for many users. I'm sure we'd even pay for it, if it was fully integrated.
