Perfect Match | Is it possible to use PM when the original version was translated using 3 different translators (hence 3 XLIFF files) and the updated version only has one translator?

Hello all,

We need guidance about a recurring scenario. Here it is:

A large document was recently translated by 3 translators working on 3 different parts of the document.

The document was broken down into 3 different XLIFF files for this first step.

We now have a revised version to translate. We'd like to use Perfect Match BUT the changes are minor and will be handled by just one translator.

  • Is there a way to use Perfect Match without having to break down the new version of the file into 3, the same way the first version was originally broken down?
  • Alternatively, is there a way to easily combine the 3 XLIFF files of the first version into 1 (and then "perfect match" it against the revised version)?

If the above is not possible, does anyone have an idea how to best handle cases like this with minimal file manipulation and preparation?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Gwen

  • I just tested this a little and I did this:

    1. created a project with a large... ish file
    2. split the file into three using split and merge
    3. translated the three split files as a separate project
    4. ran perfect match three times selecting each of the three translated split files one at a time

This works perfectly and has the following advantages over using your TM:

    1. the result is a Perfect Match.  This means that in situations where you might have had inconsistent translations but it was important to keep them, the updated file will use the correct one.
    2. the result can retain the original fuzzy values, comments that were in the files and segment statuses.  If you use your TM everything becomes a 100% match and you lose any other context that might have been important.

In a nutshell these are probably the most important advantages.
