I presume that the OpenDocument switch is supposed to have the same effect as right-clicking on the file to be translated and selecting "Translate in SDL Trados Studio". Doing it that way DOES work, so the problem seems to be with the syntax, rather than with my setup.

I've never tried this before, so I had a quick play and after failing as you described I see what the problem might be.  Initially I had this:

c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\SDLTradosStudio.exe /opendocument c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\SDL\TESTING\Command line\shorttest.txt

The error message showed things failed after Command, and this is where I had a space in the folder name.  So I replaced it with an underscore like this and it works:

c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio5\SDLTradosStudio.exe /opendocument c:\Users\pfilkin\Documents\SDL\TESTING\Command_line\shorttest.txt

I know the first part also has spaces, but it looks as though the switch doesn't like them.

Issues with space can usually be avoided by putting quotation marks around the filename, but that's not the problem for me, as the filepath contains no spaces. I've just tried doing it manually through the run box, rather than through a batch script, and it seemed to work, so maybe the problem is with my script. In any case, Friday was my last day on the current contract with the institution, so I'll have to wait a few months now before testing again. Please keep the thread open if you can and I'll report back.
