Note it's not Unicode itself that's the problem, it's just the range that's used for emoji's.

I also don't see a fix date for this yet but the more people ask for it the more likely it is to happen. I added this to the ideas site so you can vote for it, point others to it too, and this might help to prioritise the work:

I think support for emoji is less urgent than support for an error message telling the user that the file he's trying to load into Trados contain characters that Trados will break/delete/remove/replace with spaces.

Certainly in Trados Studio 2022 we have full emoji support.

It may depend on filetype though.  I noted Samuel Murray had a txt file in his sample set.  So I also tested that one (UTF-8 with BOM, SegoeUI font) and I think we may have a bug in that.  But for other filetypes I looked at it seems fine

 Paul Samuel Murray  So, I bought Studio 2022 last night and began translating—on the online editor—the editable PDF file with emoticons. Half way through checked the preview and target docx file and confirmed the emoticons are not retained, they are gone. Here and there both browser preview and target Word file do show two emoticons not found in the source file (something resembling Aladdin's lamp, colored pink in the HTML view and black in the Word file; and black hearts). Other than that, elsewhere in place of the source emoticon there is a blank space. I'll appreciate any suggestions.

You have to provide us with a sample file to test.  I'm sure you are reporting your findings, but we can only address things if we can reproduce them ourselves and understand the reason for the problem.

Is there a way to work with this "emoji" tag in Trados in terms of segmentation rules, searching, and similar? Not sure if it's clear enough, so I'll give an example: I'd like this tag to split a line of text if the tag is followed by a space and an uppercase letter.

This is sentence number one <emoji> This is sentence number two and it should be in a separate segment

This sentence should not be split <emoji> as there is no uppercase letter after the emoji

Any idea about this?
