Language Resource Template reset to default :(

OK - I had a major problem last night.

Over the last week, I have invested 4-5 hours updating my Russian Language Resource Template with a large number of abbreviations, and a number of complex segmentation rules using regular expressions.

On Friday night I created a project using the Language Resource Template without a TM, and the files segmented exactly as I wanted them too.

On Tuesday I went to create a new memory, and found that my rules had been reset to the default Language Resource Template.

I really freaked out, because it seemed I would need to recreate all these rules.  Happily, I found a memory that still had the rules in the settings.  while it may take 30-60 minutes to manually transfer everything from the TM to the Language Resource Template, it is a better workaround than having to think up all the rules again from scratch.

Still, as /if I move forward with Studio, I need to understand how this happened.

The only thing I can think of is what happened on Monday.

My Ru-en-US project template defaults to memory that I don't want in the template (a project memory rather than a default, "big" memory), so think I decided to create a project using the Default template.  I may have updated the default template, or the RU-en-US template.  In any case, now my custom Language Resource Template is gone.

Strangely enough, on Saturday morning I emailed a copy of my Russian Language Resource Template to a partner, so that they could also enjoy the more sophisticated abbreviation and segmentation rules.  I copied it from the same location where I had my customized Russian Language Resource Template (or thought I had, it certainly seemed to be the location that I browsed to).  Now that file also has the default values.

I want to clear this up before I invest the time in transferring all the abbreviations and segmentation rules from the TM settings to the Russian Language Resource Template again.

  • Did you open the original template you had to see f the rules were still there? I'm asking because you may have had a problem really selecting the template and having it used when you created your new TM.  Can you clarify this point?

Also... a really dumb question but I'm just checking... did you select the language you customised when you looked in your template? All the languages will be in there and you just see the rules for the first in the list when you open it.

  • Ohhh.....and I spend 20-30 minutes replying to this, and pressed "reply" and it disappeared, and I failed to copy my lengthy message.  Is the Universe telling me something?

    Sooooooo.......
I have only 1 Language Resource Template (LRT), for Russian, file name:
    Russian.sdltm.resource
I always stored it in the default location, here:
    Documents\Studio 2019\Language Resource Templates

I would access it in 2 ways:
    1. TM view, Language Resource Templates folder, right click, Open Language Resource Template, navigate to:
    Documents\Studio 2019\Language Resource Templates
    Select file:
    Russian.sdltm.resource

    2. Create new TM>Step 3 Language resources, templates box:
    - select "Russian"
    - if not there, select Browse, navigate to:
    Documents\Studio 2019\Language Resource Templates
    Select file:
    Russian.sdltm.resource

As late as the morning of Monday, 27 April, I saw my latest customisations when I would access the Russian LRT in any of these ways.

    I also sent the file:
    Russian.sdltm.resource
to my partner in Saint Petersburg twice, on 4 March and on Saturday, 25 April.
    He renamed these files
    001 Russian.sdltm.resource
    002 Russian.sdltm.resource
He definitely remembers that when he used the file sent in March:
    001 Russian.sdltm.resource
That he saw that new custom segmentation rules were applied to files.
Now when he looks at his settings, he sees only default settings.

When I load the 2 versions of the file:
    Russian.sdltm.resource
After downloading them again ***from the email attachments*** to the default location:
    Documents\Studio 2019\Language Resource Templates
I still get only the default abbreviations and no custom segmentation rules.

I have one TM, created on Monday, 27 April, where I can still see my custom abbreviation and segmentation rules in the TM "settings."  I don't suppose there is any way to transfer these (except manually) to the current Russian Language Resource Template.

I want to figure out what might have happened before I do that work.

The only think I can think of was that I used the default project template later on Monday.

  • Just to be absolutely clear, yes, I did open the Russian Language Resource Template, and did not see my custom abbreviations or segmentation rules - everything was the default settings (only default Russian abbreviations and no custom segmentation rules).

  • And to again me absolutely clear, when I open the settings of the Language Resource Template, the language Russian (Russia) is indeed selected in the Language: drop-down box.

It is this only language available in the drop-down box.
