Trados fails to export translated file as part of the 'Finalize' sequence

Dear All,

I have finished translating my project and have to deliver it today but Trados fails to finalize the project and generate the one of the two translated files. Here is the error message:

How can I cope with this error/locate the offending segment, so that I can export the translation and deliver it?

    Check the source document for possible field errors. Often this is a TOC, which has been removed by the customer "to save costs", but was not removed properly. And if there are no TOC errors, you can also try to remove all bookmarks from the document and reprocess that one. Or save as DOCX...

    Hi Jerzy,

    1. Thank you for your suggestion – helpful for future reference. This file contains no TOCs and it did not contain any.

    2. The problem seems to have occurred (no certainty about this) after importing a retrofit file which resulted in tracked changes and then deleting the contents of a segment with many tags and tracked changes. A segment that appears empty is clearly not so as far as Trados is concerned.

    3. Since the 'Generate Target Translations' step is the last step, and it is preceded by the 'Update Main Translation Memories' step, the translated content was already in my TMs, even if I could not get the translation out as a .doc file.

    4. So, what I did is create a copy of the source problematic file under a slightly modified name, I imported it into the project, pretranslated it and manually translated the remaining segments.

    Lucky for me, this new copy was exported with no issues.
