What are the advantages of the XML2 file type versus the XML Embedded content file type?

Hi, I am setting up a new project and wonder which XML file type to use. I want to use the embedded content processors, and rather recently the XML2 file type was introduced. Any experiences with that file type? Which is better to use? (I will use XPath to parse because I will have to be pretty granular.)

Any reports are welcome!

  • The new one handled entities better, and if you have custom namespaces it can make life easier for a novice. But other than that I'd have to say I still use the old one in preference. I don't like the way the new one fails to offer the same level of customisation if you don't make the right choice at this stage:

Trados Studio parser rule type selection with options for XPath rules and Element rules.

I also don't like that it doesn't remember all the element names if you import a definition. I prefer to work with a minimalist view but here I need to keep all the imported rules and disable the ones I don't want instead so it's harder to work logically from the start (in my opinion).

I do believe it might be better, but I just don't like it.
