We are also having problems with .po files.
Apparently some Italian letters in the Italian translation of the .po files have special characters/symbols, the client says.
How can we solve this? I am afraid I can't upload a screenshot... and when we try to convert the translated sdlxliff file back into a .po file, everything is OK but then we get an error message when we try to open the translated .po file.

Surely it's not difficult to extract part of this file and just make something up with the appropriate chars? So far you haven't given enough information to help at all... you didn't even tell us what the error message says.

I tried to upload/insert the screenshot but it didn't work.
Here is an example:
The Italian word "Capacità" turns into "Capacit#" after converting the translated .sdlxliff file into a .po file.
We can finalize/convert it but then when we try to open the translated .po file, the error message says "file corrupt".

Try copy/paste :-)
Based on your description I suggest you check the encoding of your file before putting it through Studio or any other tool. Perhaps you just need to add a BOM to enforce UTF-8?
