I use SDL Trados Studio and translate with a file-based memory. The translated Word files and the SDL XLIFF-files are sent to a proofreader who uses track changes in the XLIFF file and returns the file. I do not know how to export the XLIFF file to Word after accepting/rejecting the track changes. Please help.

If you have positioned the XLIFF file returned by the proofreader in the same location as the original file (replacing it), after accepting or replacing the track changes, you should be able to export it to Word as usual..

I tried this, but it did not work.
When I copy the XLIFF files (the ones I got from the proofreader) in the original directory (replacing the "old" XLIFF files, and I open the project, Trados shows the translated Word file with the translation I made. I do not see a possibility to add the copied XLIFF file in order to accept/reject the changes and update the translation. And afterwards save the target back to Word.
The replacement of the file should be made in Windows, not in Trados
Then you just open the file in Trados and accept/reject the changes, then export

Yes of course I replaced the XLIFF file in Windows. The proofreader used the Trados track-changes tool on the XLIFF file I have sent to him.
After I open the project, Trados automatically opens the files that I have been working on and shows me in the editor my translation. Is there any possibility to force Trados to use the replaced XLIFF file?
If you have replaced the XLIFF file in the Trados target language directory in Windows (the one you reach using Explore containing folder), when you open the file in Trados you'll see the changes. No forcing is required, but just check this. Go to Review/Track changes, on the right there are thee options, select Show Markup (if Show Original is selected you will not see the changes).
I am sorry to bother you this much. I tried what you suggest. There is no problem reading the file with the Track changes in the Trados editor, and neither is there a problem to accept/reject. The problem is to export (save as) the updated XLIFF file to the original Word format. I get the following error-message: "Failed to save target content. There is no original file type definition associated with this file" The proofreader got also an error-message when he wanted to export the file to Word, namely: "This file was created without using a file type definition. The ...." However I read a Word-file in. I use SDL Trados Studio 2015 and the proofreader SDL Trados Studio 2019.
The problem related to the file definition is because you use Trados 2015 and the proofreader uses Trados 2019, so he cannot export the file
Now my question is: could you export the target file before sending the XLIFF file to the proofreader?
I hope that you could, otherwise the problem is not related to proofreading,
If you could, use the XLIFF file returned from the proofreader to update your TM (accept or reject changes and save the XLIFF file before updating), then restore the original XLIFF and retranslate it with the updated TM, check with F8 that all tags are OK, then export.
Alternatively, create a new project using the source file and the updated TM.
