You are trying to open the wrong files. The file you are trying to open with Acrobat Reader is the SDLXLIFF file, the file you are trying to open with Word is the SDL Project file.

If you add files to your project in Studio, their translatable content will be stored in an internal file (SDLXLIFF), along with your translations. At the end of your translation, you need to finalize the project, which will create the target files (docx in both cases, pdf are an exception in how they are handled). Those are the files you need to open with Word and Acrobat.

On your system, you seem to have associated SLDXLIFFs with Acrobat and SDLPROJ with Word, which is why Explorer displays the respective program icons next to the file name. That's unfortunate and you may have to repair Studio for it to reclaim these fily types. (Not sure about that.)

This is exactly the problem I experience since a while. I do not choose Adobe or Word to open files, they are formatted automatically and system or Trados (I am really not IT savvy) opens try to open them accordingly, which is wrong. 

Do you think that safe would be to uninstall and reinstall back again with activation code Trados?
