Studio 2019, files disappear from C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local and I cannot go on working... What can I do to repair / prevent this?

Hello,

Files disappear from C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local and I cannot go on working properly...

The files seem to be a copy of the source xml-texts (which I don't have), but under a very different name, i.e. dz2z5v25.xml.xml

When trying to open the bilingual file, I get an error message. If I can nonetheless open the file and work, QA tools won't work.

How can I tell my PC not to delete those files? Is it possible to find them again?

Many thanks!

Caroline

  • Hello ,

Can you provide the full path please. The local folder has many subfolders, so it's important to know exactly what is missing.

Its also essential that you provide us with the full error message so that we can try and understand what might be happening

Error message dialog box with an 'X' icon indicating an error. Instructions listed: 1) Click on the icon, 2) Save the XML file to your desktop, 3) Add file to the thread.

  • Hello Steven,

    Thanks again!

So, the first error message I get is by opening the file. If I klick "YES", I'm to look for the files in the project folder. For this particular project, I only had the sdlxliff-files. I I click "NO", I can nonetheless translate, but the QA won't work.
What puzzles me is this: at the beginning of the project, I could open them without the following message:

So, after translation, I want to do the QA process with F8. Here is the error message I get:

    I checked ""C:\Users\Caroline\AppData\Local\Temp\j1icold0.cxv\a1l40rx0.e0r.xml".

When this happens and I happen to have the original source texts, i.e. xml/PPT/..., I simply click those when opening the file in Studio the first time I work on the project and Studio remembers it, but when I don't have them, I cannot do that.

I guess it has something to do with "Windows 10" deleting some Temp-files? But it is only a guess. Why should Studio "loose" any files? I was hoping for some help on this side: should I change any Windows parameters to avoid this?

Thanks again for your interest in my issue.
