IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN TRADOS STUDIO 2017 ANYMORE

Hello,

I can't open Trados Studio 2017 anymore. I was translating this morning and I got an error regarding my TM which stopped working. I tried to check what was going wrong but I got an error "failed to activate view translation memory". I closed Trados and tried to open it again, I couln't and I got this message "file is not a database". I found that I had to rename the files here c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0. I did it. It worked. I could open Trados Studio again but I could translate but I still had the problem with the TM. I asked for a licence reset. The problem is that I couldn't open Trados. So, I desinstalled and reinstalled everything and I still got the same error. I can't open Trados Studio at all... And I need to deliver something ASAP. Also, for a few days, I've seen that my TM was being duplicated (xxx. conflit)... I should have paid attention to that. I guess it's linked... Anyway, I really need some help here!

Thank you very much in advance!

  • Hi ,

I presume you also tried a Windows Repair of Studio? If not, here's how:

    1. Close all SDL applications.
    2. Open the Control Panel:
      • Windows Vista/7Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Windows 8: Right-click on the screen at bottom-left corner and choose Control Panel > Uninstall a Program.
      • Windows 10: Right-click on Start > Control Panel > Select View by: Small Icons > Programs and Features
      • - or type 'Control Panel' in the search line on your bottom Windows toolbar.
    3. Click/highlight the relevant SDL product from the list (e.g. SDL Trados Studio 2017 etc) and click 'Repair' either on the top toolbar or on the right-click dropdown menu.
    4. Restart Studio/MultiTerm.
If that doesn't help, as you have already tied reinstalling, you have the right to contact Installation Help free of charge, here:

    installation and licensing help

Select 'Installation' from the 'Case type' dropdown menu.

Someone will help in the next day or two if you give your correct email address.

    All the best,

    Ali :)
