Trados 2019 Project not found in the designated location until it completes the creation process

In Trados 2019 SR1, I could manually add TMs to a project in the middle of project creation. All I needed to do was to copy/paste the existing TMs to the project I was still creating in the File Manager. However, after I upgraded to SR2, I couldn't locate the project I am creating until it is created, and thus I have to wait until the folder shows up in my File Manager to manually add the TMs. If I selected "Use..." a certain TM, the project only links to the certain TM; if I move the project to a different location or assign it to someone else, the TM would be missing from the project. Does anyone know how I can solve this issue? Or is this a bug? TIA.

  • Hi

It isn't a bug, it's the way Studio is supposed to work. Keeping a TM in its usual place means there's just one TM that you keep up to date by cleaning your translated files to it, which avoids inconsistent translations if you hand jobs out to more than one translator.

TBH I'm surprised that you could add TMs to an incompleted project folder in the middle of creation with any version of Studio, it's not something I would have thought of doing and really not the intended way to work with project creation.

It is much safer and more logical to use the project creation process as it was designed. If you accidentally cut and pasted instead of copied then decided you needed to stop the project creation wizard because you'd make a mistake, I think you'd risk losing the TM when Studio reversed the partially completed project and the files thus disappeared.

I presume you are working with the Freelance version of Studio, or you would be able to create a project package to assign the project to someone else, which is again the way that Studio Pro was designed to work.

However, if you wish to continue to work the way you're suggesting, the best solution would be to allow Studio to create a project TM/s in the project folder structure then, once you've created the project, you can zip and provide the main TM/s separately.

    I hope this helps,

    All the best,

  • Hi Ali,

Thank you very much for your reply. I have been creating projects like my old methods/habits for many years until Trados 2019 forced me to change. I see your point of keeping TMs intact and somewhere safe. I will have to adapt to the 'new' project creation. Thanks again.

    Regards,
