Trados 2014 inserts "blank" (white space) between all words and the any punctuation mark following it.

Hi there,

I am using SDL Trados Studio 2014 SP1 - 11.1.4095.0

Since few days ( or weeks?) , I am noticing that SDL Trados 2014 inserts a "blank" (white space) in the target segment sentences between all translated words and the punctuation mark (e.g. full stop, comma, question mark etc.) following it. The text in the source segment is definitely clean, i.e. no unnecessary blanks are there.

This is quite annoying and certainly a lot of manual work to remove all those unwarranted blanks.

Is there any way to avoid this? Any comment or advice is welcome.

Thanks and best regards

Shyam

  • Hi Paul,

As requested, I have sent to you some files (i.e. source, target, XLIFF and project) of a dummy test  project as a reply to the automated mail.

I hope you have received those.

If not, please let me know as to how I can send files to you? Am I overlooking a button or possibility to attach files to discussion threads here?

    Thanks and best regards

  • Hi Paul,

I think I may have something that will extend the pool for investigation of this issue (both Studio 2014 and Studio 2015).

I am working on a project where the client specifically asked us to keep the end of segments as "colon"+"white space".

In the file there are lot's of exact matches which are automatically autopropagated throughout the document.

The issue is the following one:

During autopropagation all white spaces at the end of the target segment (which should stay there as a strict client instruction) are normalized and removed. Which means that the first segment has a white space at the end after being confirmed, and all auto-propagated exact matches end without a white space.

I looked all possible placed I could think of in the File -> Options to find this normalizing rule, but with no luck. Could you please help me find that option in Studio 2014 or Studio 2015 which is responsible for such autocorrections and normalizations?

    Thank you!
