Project Tab in Studio not available

Hi,

I am completely new to Trados Studio and am trying to configure it according to the guide. However the only thing I can click on is the "File" tab so that I can change the settings for the Editor. Everything on the "Home" tab is unaccessible to me - I am unable to click on the "Project" tab (project settings, new project etc. is all grey = not clickable). The only thing it gives me is: "Open Project". Same with the "Editor" tab. Please help!

Thank you,

Aneta

  • Hi Aneta

The first thing we need to know is which edition of Studio you have. If you have a Freelance edition, this would explain why the command "New Project" is greyed out, because you cannot create projects with the Freelance version.

In addition, many commands are context-dependent, so for example in order to use "Project Settings" you must have opened a project (either the sample one that gets installed with the software or a project package you received or a single-file project you created yourself using the command "Translate single document").

The same applies to the Editor, the Editor only becomes active when you open a document for translation, which you do from the Projects view or through "Translate single document".

I suggest you go through some introductory tutorial or webinar in order to get acquainted with the first steps required to use this software. It will help you getting started with Studio.
