Re: Ancient DOS glossary 'lookup' program

Hello everyone ...
You may think this is a rather curious, but I'm still using an old DOS program called Inktools 'Lookup' which I bought from an Italian translation agency in 1992. the program had been developed and produced in the late 1980s. I think quite a few translators were using it back in that period.

I was wondering whether anyone might have used this program once upon a time and could advise me with regard to the
possibility of converting it into a more modern format.

I would be very grateful for any replies. Well, it's not really a problem because I can carry on using this old terminology glossary with the Windows 'DosBox' thing but I was wondering whether a solution might be found. It would make life a bit easier.
It's a bit weird really. I use the super modern SDL Trados program and I then occasionally go and check the old DOS program to find notes that I made 20 years ago.

Thanks.

  • Hello Paul. Good morning. Thanks for getting back to me. This program doesn't do anything in particular that I would not be able to do with MultiTerm. It's simply an old glossary in which over the years I have recorded thousands of notes on technical and legal terminology etc. Basically, I would like to find a way to convert the content of this DOS program into a more modern format and I was wondering whether by chance anyone else in the group had ever used it. I have contacted the translation agency in Italy which sold it to me in 1992 and they will get back to me this morning. let's see what they say ... I'm going to ask them if back in the 1990s they found a way to convert it into a format that could be used in Windows. Otherwise, I'll just accept my fate and gradually manually transfer the massive archive of terms to SDL MultiTerm or whatever. Best regards from down yur in Zummerzet.
