Shortcuts for Copy/paste, undo not working on Trados Studio 2019

Hi All,

When I use the shortcut Ctrl+C or Ctrl+V to copy/paste, the target segment is automatically filled with the source text. The shortcuts do not work, neither does the Undo shortcut (not even the Undo button on the left top part of the Editor.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Trados twice but to no avail. I'm running Windows 10 and all updates are properly installed.

I'm running Trados through Paralles 15 and have checked that all the shortcut buttons are properly assigned. The shortcuts work perfectly with other programs (browsers, word, excel, etc).

Any suggestions please?

  • Hello ,

I dont have a lot of experience working with MAC , but the shortcuts are sometimes verydifferent.

Copy And Paste in MAC I believe uses COMMAND +C/V rather than CTRL+C/V- have you tried that combination?

It might be worth understanding also where you are copying from ? Source to Target?

Studio uses (in this case) the shortcut CTRL+INSERT

Also worth checking is your standard Automation settings

Trados Studio options menu with Automation settings highlighted, showing 'Copy Source to Target' option enabled.

If perhaps you are copying from an External source, the Copy Source to Target option is enabled.

If this doesnt help, please proivide more information and possibly screenshots that might help us understand.

  • Hi Steven,

    Thank you for reaching out!

Here's what happens when I try to copy a word or a segment from the source text: The moment I press Ctrl+C or Command+C, the target string is filled with the source text. If there is an existing translation in the target segment (in Greek), it is replaced by the English source text. I can only use Copy and Paste from the button on the top bar, this works, but out of habit, I always reach for the shortcut first and keep getting the source text into the target segment.

Worse than that, neither the Undo button nor command (Ctrl+Z or Command+Z) work. Instead, if I press the Undo button or the Undo command, the target text is filled again with the source text. Also, the Ctrl+comma shortcut delivers the same result (source text copied into target text).

The commands work perfectly with other programs in Windows.

I have been using Trados with Parallels since 2014, have used Studio 2014, 2017 and 2019 without any problem. This problem appeared a couple of weeks ago. I even uninstalled my Windows 10 Pro and re-installed both the Windows and the Studio. The problem persists.

I have double-checked the shortcuts in the Editor and they are all there.

A few minutes ago I have tried something different: I changed the Ctrl+C from the Editor shortcuts menu into Ctrl+Alt+C and it works. Same with the Ctrl+Alt+V. Better than nothing...
