Simple Transcription instead of translation

Hello everybody!

Guys, need Your help, again. Please, is there a way to do NOT use an automatic translation, BUT an automatic translitteration?

I have a file were there are a few thousands of company names, writted in Russian. Something Like: ООО "МИРОВОЕ ЛИДЕР". In this case, and only in this file, I would NOT need to translate this as "LLC WORLD LEADER", I would really need to simply transform this cyrillic text into latin. It would be then "OOO MIROVOE LIDER", for example. And it would be amazing to do this for all my 2.000 an more rows. Any help?

Many thanks,

Pietro.

  • How often does this sort of work come up?  I've never seen a requirement to do this before but if it's a common thing it probably wouldn't be too hard to create a plugin that could handle this in Studio.  Just a matter of planning the work in... which would depend on the sort of use this would get.

Other than that the only suggestion I would have is to use Studio as a tool to manage the process at least.  So maybe do this:

    1. copy source to target

    2. filter on cyrillic chars (which will be everything to start with)

    3. search replace the first segment and all other matching words

    4. refresh the filter, repeat with the next one

Eventually narrowing down the list until they are all done.  So nothing particularly helpful, but I'd enjoy seeing the progress this way at least.  However, if you have 2.000 and more unique names then this clearly won't help much at all!

  • Hello, Paul ... Well:

    Yes, quite often!

I have in this assignment 2 files with 1236 rows in one of it and another one with 9128 rows ... with something like 50 columns each. Half of this content simply needs a transcription. I0ve foud very usefull the suggestion of DANIEL ... My main doubt was about copying and paste content from excel BUT I have found something very good. A free service that save any interruption so, I just had to copy a column and paste back the automatic transcription. I do not know if I can publish this here, but I think so, cause it is free. I am using: https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian_conversion.htm

    Thank You guys.
    Have a great day!
    Pietro

Here is just sa sample, if it can be helpfull to someone as workaround. The green column are the ones I have got from the automatic transkiptions.
