SDLXLIFF files created in Studio 2021 cannot be opened in Studio 2015

Hi,

I have purchased and installed Studio 2021 yesterday and I have come across the following issue.

My source format is TXLF (WordFast). I can open TXLF files in Studio, save them as SDLXLIFF, translate them in Studio and save them back in TXLF without problems, as I did in Studio 2019.

However, I often have to share my files with other colleagues, and it seems that the SDLXLIFF files I create in Studio 2021 cannot be opened in their version of Studio (they are still using 2015). This has happened with different files on different systems (two different colleagues, both using Studio 2015).

It seems to be a compatibility issue and I am reporting it in case someone can help or SDL can investigate.

Thanks!

Stefano

  • Two things I guess:

    1. Studio 2015... very old and I'm sure that IF there is a problem nobody at SDL will devote any time to trying to resolve this.

    2. I ran a quick test as I do still have 2015 installed.  I can open sdlxliff files created in 2021 without any problems at all.

I think you need to provide more information about the type of files, what they are actually seeing... or even better share an sdlxliff file they cannot open.

  • Having said this... it does seem to depend on what the original source was.  At least based on the only TXLF files I have to test with.  If the original source was DOCX then the DOCX.TXLF.SDXLIFF can be created in 2021 and opened in 2015.  If they were XML then the XML.TXLF.SDLXLIFF seems to fail to open in 2015.

However, my answer is the same.  I don't think anyone will spend time on this because the files that fail in 2015 do open in 2019 and in 2017.  I think the solution to this problem is for your colleagues to upgrade.

  • Thanks Paul for getting back so quickly.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the type of error they get when they try to open the files. It says "An element with the same key has already been added" (they are using the Italian UI in Studio, so the exact English wording might be slightly different).

The problem might be specific to this particular source format (txlf). I am attaching a sample file.

  • OK, I wrote my first reply before seeing your second one. I guess I will have to convince them to upgrade, or keep creating sdlxliff files in Studio 2019 before sharing them with them. Studio 2019 and 2021 can coexist on the same system, right? Thanks for your feedback, Paul.

  • Studio 2019 and 2021 can coexist on the same system, right?

    Right.  I have 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021 running alongside each other.
