Plugin manager still part of Studio 2021?

Hi

Is the Plugin Manager as a standalone application still part of Studio 2021?

  • The plugin manager is still available in the program but it's not really needed as a separate utility.  The 2021 version comes with its own integrated appstore to try and ensure users always have the latest version of the apps and to make the process easier to manage.

But you can find it here if you really need to use it:

    c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL plugin installer\Sdl.Community.SdlPluginInstaller.exe

  • Thanks, that's very good to know. It was not in W10's of programs anymore, and there were instances where I had to uninstall a plugin to get Studio up and running again - I would not have been able to do that from within Studio because that would not start because of some problem with a plugin. So I am very glad it is still available for emergencies!

  • The easiest, and fastest way to remove plugins if Studio won't start is directly from the plugins folder.  There are two folders:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\

The packages folder contains the sdlplugins themselves.  The installation process just puts a copy in here.  Once Studio starts the sdlplugin is unpacked (as it's only a kind of zip file with a different extension) and put into here:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\

So deleting the plugins from these locations will do it for you.  These are the default locations, but if you have a good reason for installing a different way then they might be in here instead:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\

    Or even here:

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Packages\

    c:\ProgramData\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\16\Plugins\Unpacked\

But they should never be duplicated in each location.  It's one or the other.  So I just keep some shortcuts to these folders and then it's simple to use them when needed.
