In the Alignment, instead of clicking in the segment (turns blue in colour) simply click in the source segment number and then the target segments (using Shift + click) to highlight 

Now you should be able to connect/disconnect the relevant segments.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I tried doing this, but it does not work. The option to split or insert a segment does not even appear in the options when I right-click on the segment number (see picture for reference).

I think you need to update Studio.  The alignment module in 2019 was enhanced considerably after the initial release and looking at your screenshots you are not up to date.  The current versions for 2019 are these:

SDL Trados Studio 2019 SR2 - 15.2.7.2849
SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.6.56482

If you have this then the right-click menu offers you "split", "insert" which is what you asked for:
