Segment status doesn't change when opening multiple files (virtually merged)

Question

Hello, 
 I have a project with a couple of *.mif files to translate. When open them one-by-one, I am able to change segment statuses and these changes depicted in the Editor. 
 However, when I'm trying to open 2+ *.mif files and change segment statuses from X to Y, this is not shown in the Editor. See an example below, segment status changed from 'translation approved' to 'translation rejected'. 
 
 When I opened the file in text editor, I see this: 
 
 Studio version I'm using is:

 Can we wind back a little... please do this: 
 
 Open the two mif files together 
 change the status 
 save and close the files 
 open the files up again 
 what is the status? 
 
 If the status is still as you saved it please take a another look at the sdlxliff (if this is even necessary)
