Lost my local TMs, can I build a new TM database using the source and target files?

Well, can I upload the source and target files I previously translated on the SDL and build a new TM database from them? I lost my previous ones due to a harddisk failure.

  • Hello,

You can recreate your TM's based on your existing data via two methods:

    1.XLIFFS

If you still have the .sdlxliffs (bilingual files) from your older projects, you can import them in a newly created TM. Simply create a new TM in the Translation Memories view and after the memory is created you can right click it, select "Import" and add all of your .sdlxliff files. This is very straight forward process and I highly recommend it.

    2.Alignment

You can align source/target files via the "Align Documents" task (found on Studio's Welcome view). However this can be a time consuming process, especially if there is no segement "parity" between the source and the target. This means that you will have to manually align source segments with target segments. After the alignment is done though, you can import its contents in a TM.
