It's worth trying a reset I think.  

Rename this folder (just add _old to the end or something, it's not important what you rename it to) and restart Studio:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16

So the path would become this:

c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio16_old

If you can't find this folder then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

www.howtogeek.com/.../

This happened in a completely new installation of Studio on a completely new computer with a completely new copy of Windows 10 and hardly any other programs installed.

I have 16 GB of RAM which is typically used only 50%.

I don't see how in such a case a reset of anythiing can change behavior.

As additional info, this also happened in Studio 2019, and I had hoped it would go away with 2021...

Sometimes the installation fails to install correctly so this will be one of the first things the support will attempt in all cases.  Perhaps someone else will have better advice if you don't want to try it at least.  It may not help, but it is the first thing to try.

I had this happen in my Studio 2019 installation on my old Windows 7 machine as well and in any and all updates, what are the chances that the install will fail in similar ways in each and every case?

I had hoped/expected that thos wpudl be over with 2021, but this one hasn't wither...

If you have these problems then you should probably be looking at what else you are using and how you're working.  I'm not trying t throw the blame for problems elsewhere but if you consistently have these sort of problems then there is clearly something wrong with your environment otherwise everyone would be having this problem.

Check your security software is properly configured (whitelisting, ensuring it's fully up to date, not using some free solution that seems to do the job for example), make sure you are not storing your resources and projects on an external drive or online resource (OneDrive/Dropbox/GoogleDrive etc.) of example.  These sort of things.  All of these can impact the correct functioning of the software.

Perhaps you can explain more about your environment and we can try to help a bit more?

My environment is as standard as can be: Windows 10, latest updates, 64 bit, 16 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD for programs, 1 TB HD for data with two volumes on it, one dedicated for translation related stuff, memory typically 50% used, about 50% free space on each of the volumes.

paid NOD32 antivirus, MS Office 2019 in 32 bit mode, very few additional programs (Passolo, MemoQ, across)

I have set up my Studio with standard views, standard everything, minimal changes only to make the editor behave the way I want, nothing else special, translation environment as follows: per customer a separate directory with subdirectories for each individual project to keep things separate

and no problems whatsoever in any of the other programs, not even on my old machine where I had lots of other programs running and where the disks were filled to at least 90%

what else can I do to have as much a vanilla environment as possible?

Have you checked that Trados Studio is correctly whitelisted with this program?

Have you tried the reset yet?

I am too busy, I have no time for reset and frankly, I don't see what it can change given that rthe problem appears after each individual installation

Fair enough... I guess there is no point me organising a support engineer to do this for you either then.  If you have no time to get this fixed why ask at all?

I have no time now, but perhaps in a week or two.

Why ask? because other people may have the same experience, you guys may know about this issue and have a solution,...

and if it happens seemingly random, what could a support engineer do to help? Only immediately when I experience the issue, but how fast can they react? I can hardly wait for two days with this error message staring me in the face.

this antivirus has no whitelist, moreover I don;t see how a whitelist can help with this 'failed to deactivate view' which is obviously something inside the program, I am not accessing the internet anywhere in my Studio setup

Reset: I have done a complete reinstall twice without any change in behavior.

Could somebody dfrom your suppport/development group try and identify what causes this message? maybe that could get us somwhere
