Is there a way to create a TM from a translated Excel where languages are separated in tabs with multiple columns? (Source language is Sheet1 and Target language is Sheet2).
I've tried rearranging all the content as Column A-source and Column B-target with a bilingual excel file, but with 15+ columns, it takes a while. Both tabs already have identical formatting.
Other than the bilingual Excel method, is there a way to use the Alignment feature and make it cell-based instead of sentence-based?
I think you'll need to do some work on the file to convert the Excel file, or use alignment as you mentioned. If it was me, and if both worksheets have identical formatting meaning a row in worksheet#1 corresponds to a row in worksheet#2, I'd rearrange the worksheets to have just one source column instead of 15+ (does that mean 100 or 16?) and one target column in the same sheet. Then use the Glossary Converter to convert directly to an SDLTM (you need the latest version for that):

If you want to align and avoid manipulating the Excel file then you need to split into two files, one for source and one for target. And use paragraph segmentation for your TM if you want this to be cell-based. Important to make sure you apply the segmentation rules to your target language as well as your source since this is alignment:

So far, I've compared the Alignment method and bilingual Excel method. The bilingual Excel method is about 3 times faster, because I don't need to realign anything or check each segment for alignment, but it does require some work in Excel. Like you said, I rearranged the worksheets to have one source column. I ran into problems at first because Excel wouldn't let me copy all of my columns into one big Column A (something wrong with the formatting of my specific file), but one way around that was to copy each of my source columns into Column A of a new worksheet. So I ended up having 15+ worksheets with only column A + B. It's a lot of copy-paste, but it beats checking each segment for alignment and does exactly what I need it to do.
I will give another try to the Align function with paragraph segmentation to see how that goes. Hopefully it's even faster!
