Help! My TM corrupted in the middle of translating and nothing is fixing it!

IError message in Trados Studio 2019 stating 'The translation memory may be in use, could not be accessed.'

I've tried renaming/deleting the repository. I've tried running a repair with the TMRepair add-in. I can't export it into a TMX because Trados won't let me open it to export it. I am using Trados 2019.

Any ideas?

Thanks

  • I have managed to recover some... not sure how many were in your original TM but I’ve created a new TM with around 65k Tus.  So better than nothing!  A few notes:

    1. The TM was completely corrupted but I was able to get at a few tables in the database and fortunately the translation_units was one of them.
    2. I exported this table as a json file using sqlite browser and extracted the source and target content using the JSON filetype on the appstore in Studio
    3. It was too large for one go so I had to split it a few times until I was able to save the sdlfliff to get at the content
    4. I then converted the sdlxliff files to TMX and stripped the tags as the JSON contained so many you wouldn’t have been able to do anything sensible with it
    5. I put the TMX files, the JSON files and the SDLTM I recreated into a zip and sent them to you

Hope that helps.  It is a good idea to keep a regular backup, and also export to TMX and back that up too.  Worst comes to worst it’s always easy to recover from a TMX and as it’s a flat file you can work with it in a text editor.
