Date and Time Format Customization (Studio 2021)

Hello there,

I have two questions I hope you can help me with:

1) Is it possible to add a non-breaking space at the moment of creating a custom time format with the new functionality of Studio 2021?

2) I am having problems with the default time format for my target language (Spanish-Colombia). As you can see in the image below, the format is supposed to include a space between the strings "a." and "m.", but it is not like this when adding times in the Editor view.

Trados Studio Time Formats dialog box showing a list of time formats with an example highlighted showing incorrect spacing '9:39 a.m.' without a space between 'a.' and 'm.'.

Trados Studio Editor view with a time entry '9:39am' highlighted indicating missing space between 'a' and 'm' in the Spanish-Colombia default time format.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can provide.

No... you do this the same way it's always been done, in here against the specific language pair (not All Language Pairs):

Trados Studio Options dialog showing Translation Memory and Automated Translation settings with a red arrow pointing to the 'Custom space character' option which is not selected.

    2) I am having problems with the default time format for my target language (Spanish-Colombia). As you can see in the image below, the format is supposed to include a space between the strings "a." and "m.", but it is not like this when adding times in the Editor view.

This may not be possible.  I wondered if you might be able to treat this as a new measurement unit but I think the problem would be that the source time would be recognised and it would never be used.  I think this might require an enhancement to the available options for times.  Perhaps raise this on the ideas site for your language pair?

Or maybe use the Regex Autosuggest Provider where this would be trivial to manage, but it would mean you only get the benefit when working interactively.  You could not pre-translate and have the results automatically localized for example.

  • Thank you very much Paul! I had the considered the alternative options, but I was hoping it could be done easier. Have a great day!
