mqxliff to sdlxliff: preserve segments

Dear community,

I work with Trados Studio 2021 Freelance and need to translate mqxliff files. Each segment has a specific length that I need to observe. When importing into Trados, I can see the lengths next to the segments, but the whole segment is split into single sentences, which makes it impossible to keep a certain length for the whole segment without some cumbersome copy/paste workaround.

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing segments with lengths indicated in red on the right side, some segments are split into single sentences.

This is what the xml looks like in the mqxliff file:

<trans-unit id="1" mq:status="NotStarted" mq:segmentguid="xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx" mq:lastchangedtimestamp="0001-01-01T00:00:00Z" mq:maxlengthchars="300" mq:nosplitjoin="true" mq:firstlabel="0" mq:lastlabel="0" mq:autosplitjoinstate="0" mq:lastmodifrole="0" mq:multipleexactmatch="false">
<source xml:space="preserve" mq:segpart="0" mq:hasfollowingobject="hasfollowingobject">Some text to translate. Can contain several sentences and different punctuation...</source>
<target xml:space="preserve"></target>
<context-group>
<context context-type="x-mmq-context">Some_context</context>
</context-group>
<mq:startingws xml:space="preserve" />
<mq:endingws xml:space="preserve" />
<mq:commitinfos xmlns="MQXliff" /><mq:nosplitjoins><mq:nosplitjoin type="JoinNext" reason="filter" /><mq:nosplitjoin type="JoinPrevious" reason="filter" /></mq:nosplitjoins>
<mq:originalsource edited="false" />
</trans-unit>

I thought it might have something to do with the option to preserve spaces, so I made sure it was set to "preserve", but it didn't help:

Screenshot of Trados Studio settings with options for segment status, including 'Keep segment status' and 'Normalize', with 'Normalize' selected.

So how do I get Trados to import the MemoQ segments without splitting them into sentences?

Grateful for all hints!

Vasilika
