Studio 2019 cannot save project file when creating a new project

I am having trouble creating a new project using Studio 2019.

I go through all of the steps with the project wizard and am able to save all of the files associated with the project except for the actual project file itself ---the *.sdlproj file.

I get some sort of error message at the very end of project creation indicating that the project file cannot be saved (without explanation or troubleshooting work-around suggestions, or settings correction/check suggestions, of course)

All of the other folders associated with the project have been created and are listed in the project folder the project wizard created:

en-US,

ja-JP,

Reports,

Tm

[No project file to open where it should be here at the bottom of the list]

Is this a conflict with my MS OneDrive or some other issue?

I cannot get to work if I cannot setup a project. I had a similar problem earlier this month and I avoided it by just adding files from a new project into another existing project just to get things working.

I really thought users were supposed to be able to create projects simply with ease.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Joseph

  • For the time being, I'm going to piggy back my files onto a previous project by "adding files", but it would be helpful to be able to create separate projects, along with termbases and translation memories, etc.

  • Hello ,

It would be really useful if you could post screenshots of the errors.

It might also be worth checking that you can create the project locally- this way we can see if the issue is related to OneDrive

I would also check that OneDrive is actually properly synching to your machine and that you have added Studio to your AntiVirus 'exceptions list'.

  • Thank you, Steven Whale,

There is probably not much that can be done.

    A.

    1. Here is a screenshot from the latest attempt:

Screenshot showing Trados Studio error message 'Error: Failed to Save Project' in the upper right corner on a Lenovo P53 ThinkPad laptop screen.

You can see in the upper right hand corner, it reads "Error: Failed to Save Project". This comes after all of the steps to find, add, and create termbases and translation memories and the final screen that tells you something to the effect that, "Trados has successfully created your project!". Deflating.

(I apologize for the fact that the image is small. I am using an external monitor in addition to my new Lenovo P53 ThinkPad laptop.)

    2. As far as creating it "locally" --making sure that the computer does not save it into OneDrive by eliminating that from the file path name-- that has resulted in the above error.

    3. After that error, another error window pops up which reads: "[file name] File not found. Check the filename and try again."

Screenshot displaying a second error message window in Trados Studio stating 'file name File not found. Check the filename and try again.'

    4. In the course of this process, I noticed that despite efforts to save the file locally, Trados refers to a pathname that includes" User\[My_Name]\ OneDrive\ Documents\ Studio 2019 \ Projects\ [My_Project_Name]". When I look in the local (C: Drive) folder (mirror/identical path minus "\OneDrive\ " I get the above  "[file name] File not found. Check the filename and try again." error. This is like the horror movie motif where a poor soul buries the cursed doll/artefact only for it to terrifyingly resurface again!

    5. Thinking that this is some sort of OneDrive syncing issue, I searched for a means to turn off OneDrive for Trados for a single application only (Trados), but it seems that Microsoft does not offer that functionality. My guess is that OneDrive is either always "On" or "Off", but not paused for individual applications.

    I appreciate any help.

    Thank you.

  • Here is another shot indicating that Trados/Windows has either saved the file in OneDrive or is looking for the file in OneDrive despite my efforts to save it to my C: Drive.

Screenshot showing a Lenovo desktop with Trados Studio error message, indicating a file save issue with OneDrive.

    Endless loop. Catch 22.

  • Hi

Whilst awaiting a reply from , I thought it might help to tell you that when I want to work on something without it being saved to OneDrive, I work to my Downloads folder. It is not synced to OneDrive...

This isn't a suggestion for ongoing work but could be useful as a temporary test. I do this on my laptop when travelling, when I know I'm not going to have access to the internet and want to be sure I don't lose anything between my 2 computers' syncs to OneDrive...

    All the best,
