Easygenerator XLIFF files - issues when translating in Studio

Hi Community,

A customer started using the Easygenerator platform and they export XLIFF files from there for translation.

They cannot change any settings for the export, and XLIFF files the platform generates does not have the correct language codes in the file, so it has to be adjusted manually, but beyond that, the files that are translated in Studio cannot be imported back, the platform says there is an issue in the structure, and that is it, no further details. We have tried it with several files and different ways of processing the XLIFF, but no avail.

Interestingly, Easygenerator recommends Lokalise to translate the files. When the file is translated in that platfrom, there is no issue with the missing language codes, and Easygenerator does import the translated files.

When Easygenerator was asked, they said they are aware of Studio users having an issue with their files, but it's because 'SDL is using a wrong XLIFF standard'.

Has anyone of you worked with Easygenerator XLIFF files before? Do you have a workaround maybe?

Thank you,
Greta

  • they said it's because SDL is using the wrong XLIFF version / schema.

What schema do they think we should be using?  I'd be very interested to hear the response to that.

The Lokalise file is nonsense in terms of what you would normally expect to see returned.  As Daniel said, the source has been stripped out altogether.  So if they require a specific format back, and perhaps that's what they mean by wrong schema, then it would be good to know what that should look like.

I ran a diff report on this and the only difference is that the Studio XLF now has a target translation.  For example:

Side-by-side comparison of XLIFF files showing the Studio XLF with target translation added and the Lokalise XLF with multiple changes including the header.

The same comparison with the Lokalise XLF and its full of changes, even the header!

Diff report highlighting differences between Studio XLF and Lokalise XLF, with the Studio version showing only the addition of target translation.

In my opinion Easygenerator are not using XLIFF as intended and the import format seems to have some special requirements that we don't know about... based on the file you provided.  But certainly there is nothing wrong with the file from Studio at all.  All that happened is that the target translation has been added.  The rest of the file is exactly the same as the source.

  • Thank you for looking into this.

I have asked the customer, who's been in contact with Easygenerator before, to ask about their XLIFF requirements. I'll paste here their reply.
