Thank you @Paul Filkin! I hope they can help, my licenses are up to date, the .mif files are legit, I have no idea why this happens. Would you have any suggestions I could try in the meantime?

I do not have an active support contract any more, had one for years and never had to use it. Murphy's law? :-)

Have you tried splitting them up and create a project with less files?  Maybe one or two of the files are problematic?

Have you tried using the "Create a project" from the projects view as opposed to using the drag and drop approach in the welcome view... if you did this?

Have you tried using "Translate single document"?  I know it's one at a time, but sometimes this approach works when the projects won't.
