Yes it will.  The file he sends back will update your project with his file and replace the one you worked on.  If you want to do this the best approach now is probably to create a new project with the XLIFF using the same settings.  Then replace the sdlxliff in the target language folder with the one from the project you have reviewed to 25%.  Now the new project will be the same as the one you already started.  When you get your return packages update a TM in the old project with the contents of the translated segments, then use that TM to update your new project.

Thanks Paul. It would be handy if locked segments or signed off segments wouldn't be changed when importing a package for instance :)

You could try working with the XLIFF Manager to share files in a workflow like this.  It can manage the work in a different way and will allow you to do just what you want:
