segmentation problem with .xlf file

Hi,

A client wants to send .xlf files from now on. However, segmentation is problematic. Studio does not create segments based on sentences, even though that is the TM setting. It seems to consider all text within a CDATA tag as one single block.

The tag that seems to block correct segmentation is <![CDATA[herecomesthetext]]>

Does anyone have a solution for this? How can I make Studio apply the sentence-based segmentation in thos blocks as well?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Michael

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for helping out. I really don't know what to do anymore. I have tried so many options, but none of them work. Whenever I open this xlf file in Studio, the big segment in the second half of the page always comes out as one big segment in Studio, even though there's quite a bit of text there.

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing an xlf file with a large segment of text incorrectly recognized as a single segment.

So this is the useless result in Studio:

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface displaying the same xlf file with text segments properly separated and editable.

I've tried to play around with options for embedded content as well, but none of those seem to make a difference. Any further tips will be much appreciated, as I have run out of ideas and really need to be able to handle these files efficiently, as there will be many of them.

    Best regards,

    Michael
